Send us your pics of
Adopted BARK animals and we
will feature them in our
next newsletter!
We thought it would be
nice to share pics and
stories of our animals
that have been adopted
into their forever
homes. Do you have a
short story that you
would like to share with
the other readers? If
so, we would love for
you to send them to us
at
barkemail@yahoogroups.com.
That way your new furry
family member can be
featured in one of our
newsletters!
All we need is a short
paragraph about your
furball and a recent
picture. If you have
any questions please
don't hesitate to ask!

Cocoa
Needs a Forever home!
Cocoa
has been in foster care
with BARK Rescue since
December of '05.
He came to us as a
boisterous puppy of
about 6 months of age.
Since then he has
matured into a sleek and
very handsome dog. His
coat is quite short and
requires very little in
the way of grooming to
maintain it's beautiful
shine. He is housebroken
and crate trained. In
fact, he will seek his
open crate to relax in
when he needs some down
time. He knows basic
commands, and walks very
well on a Gentle Leader
head collar. He likes
his canine housemates,
but is not good with
cats. He has had minimal
exposure to small
children, but seems to
do well with the older
ones that he has been
exposed to at Petco and
PetSmart. He has
mellowed quite a bit
while in foster care,
but is still very
athletic and can jump 4
feet straight in the air
at the door when he
wants in or out, so
requires a 6' fenced
yard. If you would like
to avoid all the puppy
problems of chewing and
house soiling, and enjoy
the companionship of a
very good dog who is
affectionate but not
needy, Cocoa is all that
and so much more. If you
have any questions about
Cocoa, email us at
barkemail@yahoogroups.com
or to apply for
adoption, fill out an
adoption application on

Let's Get Baking!
When baking treats for
dogs, healthy,
wholesome, and all
natural are key: you're
controlling what your
dog is eating. I'm sure
you all remember the dog
food recall not to long
ago. You're feeding your
dog who knows what and
where it came from.
Additionally, commercial
dog treats are loaded
with chemicals and
preservatives and by
making your own treats,
you're giving your pet a
wholesome yummy treat
that is safe!
With healthy homemade
dog treats, you will be
able to remove the
artificial ingredients
such as colors,
additives, fillers, and
byproducts that are bad
for your dog. Animals
need a pure alternative
to the left over
ingredients used in
their food and homemade
healthy dog treats give
them just that.
The store brand treats
are created from
preservatives the
manufacturer adds to
keep these treats on the
shelves longer and to
prevent spoilage.
Healthy homemade dog
treats will not have any
of these additives in
them that might cause
your dog to be sick.
Only the most natural
and highest quality
ingredients go into your
special pooches treats.
You can add fresh
vegetables, fresh meats,
and other soft, clean
ingredients instead of
offering them dry,
stale, biscuits out of a
box that have been on
the shelf for months or
years before you buy it.
When you are baking your
own healthy homemade dog
treats, you can be
flexible in the
ingredients you choose
to add. Many different
combinations can be used
to create a variety of
yummy flavors they are
sure to like. Dogs love
flavors like cheesy
garlic, chicken, peanut
butter, and beef.
Hey, even Rachel Ray is
doing it!

Peanut - Carob
Isabooscotti
(Isaboo is Rachel's Dog)
Recipe courtesy Rachael Ray
from Every Day with Rachael
Ray
Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Inactive Prep Time: 10
minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Yield: 16 biscuits
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 pinches ground cinnamon
1 cup chunky peanut butter
1 cup milk
1 cup carob chips
Preheat the oven to 400
degrees F. In a large bowl,
combine that flour, baking
powder and cinnamon. Place
the peanut butter in a
medium bowl and microwave at
high power to soften, 5 to
10 seconds. Whisk in the
milk, then stir the mixture
into the dry ingredients.
Shape the dough into a long,
flattened log and place on a
greased baking sheet. Bake
for 20 minutes; remove from
the oven and let cool for 10
minutes. Slice the log
crosswise on an angle into
1-inch-thick pieces. Set the
slices on their sides (they
should look like biscotti)
and bake until crisp, 10 to
12 minutes more. Transfer to
a rack to cool. Melt the
carob in a microwave or on
the stovetop over low heat.
Thin the melted carob with 1
tablespoon water, if needed.
Using a spoon, drizzle the
melted carob over the
biscuits. Let cool
completely. Store in an
airtight container.
