Greta was found as a stray and taken to animal control in St Louis.  Her BAD owner didn't want her anymore, which is a good thing.  She was very neglected!  She was very thin and has lost most of her teeth from lack of care.  But she is already on the road to recovery.  She is eating great and loves to be by your side.  She went in for a dental and  had to get her last 11 teeth removed.  She does need to eat canned food only since she doesn't have any teeth.   She is an adult girl and still has a lot of spunk to her.  She Loves to play with her favorite toy and toss it around and likes to run in the back yard.  She is a very small Schnauzer, only 8lbs currently, but should be around 12lbs once she puts her weight on.  She does fine with other submissive dogs.  More info to come once we learn more about her personality.

UPDATE: Greta, or Miss Greta as she is lovingly called, is an absolute delight. She is full of energy, love and eager to please. She has her favorite toys, which she loves to take outside. She loves to hear the squeakers and you will often see her flipping the toys up in the air and chasing after them. Using the squeaker is also another way that she tells you she is getting hungry. Greta loves sitting in the chair with her foster mom and dad as well as curling up on a soft blanket on the floor. She simply wants to be wherever the people are. Greta has a tremendous amount of character and personality and can make you burst out laughing.  Chasing after a fly can entertain her for hours and keep her foster parents laughing.

Greta has not been exposed to cats at her current foster home but does interact well with the other two dogs in the home. While there has not been active initiation of play among the dogs, Greta has adapted very well and comes across as more of a buddy. She seems more content with entertaining herself.  Her foster mom is working with her on leash walking manners, as she likes to be out and about checking out the sights.  She does really well. She does great with car rides and loves to be on the go.  See loves to snuggle and likes nothing more than to sit on your lap or stay at your feet. She is content to be wherever the action is.

Greta is doing well with eating canned food and will need to be on a quality canned food the remainder of her life as she has no teeth. She has a great appetite and is slowly continuing to gain weight. Greta has done well with all types of visitors including children as young as age 3. I don’t however feel that a home with small children would be the best atmosphere for her. While she loves attention, she also likes some quiet time so older children would be better. Greta can be quite the escape artist so a securely fenced in yard is an absolute must. She is small and can sneak through many openings so has to be watched that she does not get out of your sight or control. Greta does not like to be left alone for any extended periods of time and would do best in a home where she was never left for more than 3-4 hours at a time. She would do well for a family where there is a stay at home parent or for someone who is retired and can be home with her. She does not do well at all kept in a kennel or crate. She needs to not feel confined. When both foster parents are gone, she is gated off but has the full run of two rooms of the home and does well with this.

The foster parents would like to adopt her out locally, within an hours drive of Belleville, IL.

Thank you Tim and Lisa Kappert for sponsoring Luci!
